An open letter to Attorney General Jerry Brown
Dear Attorney General Brown:
During Tuesday's gubernatorial debate at Dominican College, Tom Brokaw asked you, "Is Proposition 13 sacrosanct….?"
Your reply included, "There are no sacred cows over the long term. We have to look at things," suggesting everything is on the table.
Due to your history of opposing Proposition 13 when it was on the ballot, and strongly embracing it after the tax limiting measure was overwhelmingly approved by voters, taxpayers are extremely uneasy to hear your equivocations.
On behalf of the millions of California taxpayers and homeowners for whom home ownership would be nearly impossible without Proposition 13's protections, we demand a simple yes or no answer.
Do you support Proposition 13 as written?
And, if you are elected governor, will you promise to defend Proposition 13 against all avenues of attack, including legal challenges and political opposition?
We look forward to your earliest response so that we can inform taxpayers of your stand on this vitally important matter to millions of California homeowners.
Sincerely,
Jon Coupal
