CNNMoney.com reports on the recent progress of legislators to get approval for California's $40 billion high-speed rail project. However, as studies sponsored by HJTA and other taxpayer organizations have shown, the plan has a faulty business model and could turn out to be one of the most monumental wastes of taxpayer dollars in recent history.

$8 billion is the amount of stimulus money that the Obama administration has earmarked for high-speed rail projects in the coming years. A just-released study, The California High Speed Rail Proposal: A Due Diligence Report by transportation experts Wendell Cox and Joseph Vranich, documents the actual costs of the project, which are greatly at odds with the estimates put out by promoters of Proposition 1A.
